About

emmyacceptance.jpg

Stuart Bass recently retired and is exploring an early interest in photography. He started using his father’s Nikormat at a young age and later shot for the high school newspaper and yearbook. Later, at the San Francisco Art Institute his aesthetic was best described as rebellion and comedy wrapped in the avant-garde.

For most of his adult life Stuart focused on editing series comedies in Los Angeles, including The Wonder Years, Parker Lewis Can’t Lose, Scrubs, The Office, Arrested Development, Pushing Daisies and A Series of Unfortunate Events. He has enjoyed directing episodes of Don't Trust the B**** in Apartment 23 and Melissa and Joey. He designed and edited several main title sequences, most recently creating the title for A Series of Unfortunate Events. He has directed second unit and inserts for many television shows, including Macgyver, The Wonder Years, Pushing Daisies and Mockingbird Lane.

Stuart began his career shooting rock videos for MTV during the company’s early years. At this time he was part of the growing comedy improvisation scene involved in teaching workshops and performance, and later moved into directing and editing hundreds of spots for San Francisco’s largest commercial production company.
